Small Town, Big Impact: Brenda Workman and Bryce Smith Continue to Make a Difference
On April 25, the community of Prophetstown, Illinois came together once again for the Third Annual Testicular Cancer Foundation Golf Tournament at Prophets Hill Golf Course. What started as a local fundraiser has grown into something much bigger: a powerful example of how one family and one community can make a lasting impact.
This year’s tournament raised more than $10,000 for the Testicular Cancer Foundation, bringing the event’s three-year fundraising total to more than $30,000. For a small town like Prophetstown, that achievement is remarkable and speaks volumes about the generosity and commitment of everyone involved.
While the funds raised will help support the Foundation’s mission of providing education, awareness, and support to patients, survivors, caregivers, and families, the true impact of the event reaches far beyond the dollars.
Every year, the tournament serves as an opportunity to start important conversations about testicular cancer. It helps raise awareness of the disease, encourages men to become familiar with the warning signs, and reinforces the importance of early detection. Those conversations matter, and they have the potential to save lives.
For Bryce Smith, a testicular cancer survivor, this mission is personal. Having experienced the challenges of diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship firsthand, he understands the importance of support and awareness.
Standing alongside Bryce is his mother, Brenda Workman, whose dedication has been instrumental to the success of the tournament.
Anyone who has ever organized a golf tournament knows the tremendous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. From coordinating sponsors and recruiting golfers to managing registrations, prizes, volunteers, and event logistics, it requires countless hours of planning and preparation.
Brenda has truly carried the lion’s share of that effort.
Year after year, she has invested an incredible amount of time, energy, and heart into making this tournament possible. Her commitment to raising awareness and supporting others impacted by testicular cancer is evident in every detail of the event. What began as a way to support Bryce and honor his journey has evolved into a meaningful community tradition that continues to make a difference.
At the Testicular Cancer Foundation, we are grateful not only for the funds raised, but for the awareness created and the example Brenda and Bryce continue to set.
They remind us that advocacy does not require a large platform. Sometimes it starts with sharing a story, bringing people together, and creating opportunities for conversations that matter. In a town the size of Prophetstown, they have built something truly special, proving that even small communities can create a tremendous impact.
To Brenda, Bryce, the tournament sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and everyone who supported this year’s event, thank you.
Thank you for believing in our mission. Thank you for helping spread awareness about testicular cancer. Thank you for ensuring that more men know the signs and symptoms and feel empowered to seek care when something doesn’t feel right.
Most importantly, thank you for showing what can happen when a community rallies around a cause and refuses to stop making a difference.
Three years. More than $30,000 raised. Countless awareness conversations started.
That is an incredible accomplishment, and we are honored to have Brenda Workman and Bryce Smith as part of the Testicular Cancer Foundation family.
