A Weekend to Remember: Celebrating Community at the GCCF Barn Dance

Some weekends remind you exactly why this work matters.

This past weekend, members of the Testicular Cancer Foundation traveled to Woodstock, Illinois, to attend the annual GCCF Barn Dance—an event that has become much more than a fundraiser. It’s a celebration of community, hope, and the incredible impact that can be made when people rally around a cause bigger than themselves.

First and foremost, congratulations to Steve Gavers and the entire Gavers Community Cancer Foundation (GCCF) team for another phenomenal event. The amount of work, planning, and heart that goes into making this weekend a success is remarkable, and it showed in every detail.

From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, reconnecting with old friends, and making new ones. The beer was cold, the pork chops were as good as everyone promised, the bands kept the dance floor full, and the entire weekend was simply a blast. It was the kind of event where people come together not just to have fun, but to make a real difference.

At the heart of it all is GCCF’s mission.

Steve and the GCCF team continue to be passionate advocates for cancer awareness, encouraging people to know their bodies, get checked, and seek medical attention when something doesn’t feel right. Early detection saves lives, and GCCF has never stopped using its platform to spread that message. Beyond awareness, they continue to make meaningful financial contributions to organizations and initiatives supporting those impacted by cancer, helping fund programs that change lives every single day.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing Marco Pizzoferrato receive the prestigious Never Be Defeated Award. This award recognizes individuals who embody resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to serving others despite the challenges they’ve faced. Anyone who knows Marco understands just how deserving he is. As a testicular cancer survivor, educator, advocate, and longtime supporter of the cancer community, Marco has dedicated himself to making sure others never have to face their journey alone. Congratulations, Marco, on this well-deserved honor. We couldn’t think of a better recipient.

For all of us at the Testicular Cancer Foundation, one of the most meaningful parts of the weekend was seeing so many familiar faces from our own community. Survivors, ambassadors, supporters, caregivers, and friends gathered together—not because of the cancer that brought them into this community, but because of the lifelong friendships and brotherhood that have grown from it.

That sense of community was on full display during the live auction.

We were incredibly proud to see members of the TCF family come together and contribute more than $30,000 during the auction in support of GCCF’s mission. It was a powerful reminder that when organizations work together instead of separately, everyone wins—and more lives are impacted because of it.

The relationship between the Testicular Cancer Foundation and GCCF is one built on shared values: supporting patients and survivors, educating communities, encouraging early detection, and ensuring that no one has to face cancer alone. We’re incredibly grateful to stand alongside organizations like GCCF that continue to invest in making a lasting difference.
